Water changes: Change the water every 7–14 days. Use filtered water, or leave tap water standing for 24 hours before use to reduce chlorine.
Water level: Cover only the roots, approximately 2–5 cm. Do not submerge the whole stem.
Lighting: Keep in bright indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which may yellow the leaves.
Temperature: Prefers 18–30°C. Keep away from air conditioners and cold draughts.
Cleaning: Wash the container and any pebbles at each water change to prevent algae and bacteria from building up.
Yellow leaves: Trim yellow or damaged leaves to maintain plant health.
Fertilising: Use a very dilute liquid fertiliser for aquatic or indoor plants, approximately one-quarter strength, every two to three months. Excess fertiliser can harm the plant.
Signs to watch for
Yellow leaves: Often caused by direct sunlight, water quality or excess fertiliser.
Stem rot or an unpleasant smell: Indicates stagnant water or irregular water changes. Replace the water and clean the container immediately.
